Thanks, Bill!!!

When I've got more time, later today, I'll start a new topic: "Mac Users Forum" where those of us with these odd-ball bits of delight can share our problems and solutions as we interface with the site, such as the SpellCheck, how to imbed photos in posts, etc.

Do you see any problems with this, Bill?

Thanks again!!!

Joe.

No problemo, Joe - I've split your reply into a new topic.

Thanks again, Bill!!!

Does anyone know how to get the Spellcheck to work with OS 9 or 10?

How about imbeding photos in the posts? Anything you can tell me? Maybe I'm just not enough of a nerd on this great tool!

Joe.

I don't know a Mac from an apple, but if you can download the Google toolbar and use its spellchecker you will have one better than the one here. Plus you get full feature Google search and a very good popup blocker. Free. Just don't forget to allow popups on this site, because the only ones you get are for PMs.

How is embedding images in a post a problem for Macs? It does not seem platform dependent at all. First, the image HAS to exist on the internet, usually on the C-Brat site, but it could be anywhere else. I assume you can upload photos to your album, right? You cannot just embed a picture in a post directly from your hard drive on either a PC or a Mac.

Once the picture is on the internet, embedding it in a message is just a matter of putting its location between the IMG tags, which is pure text.

For example, I want to show off my stupid dog. So I go to my album, display the picture, right-click to bring up the Properties window (I don't know how you display the Properties window on a Mac, is that the problem?). I ASSUME that you can display the Properties window for a picture somehow on a Mac...

The Properties window has an ADDRESS and a LOCATION for the picture, and maybe somebody smarter than I can explain the difference, but it is the LOCATION you want to copy. In my case the location is

http://www.c-brats.com/albums/album112/Oscar_on_Board.sized.jpg

I am just going to surround this with IMG tags, in square brackets, with a "/" in the closing tag:
Code:
[img]http://www.c-brats.com/albums/album112/Oscar_on_Board.sized.jpg[/img]

This code does this:

P.S. - Oscar, in case you are reading this, I really don't think you are stupid...

Well, Pat, if you insert the code you specify with a Mac, you get this.

I'm using a mac - I agree with Pat re the inline images and have't ever had any problem with the spell checker (when I bother to use it) but there are a couple of things I can think of that might be causing you problems.

For images and other URL inserts, I have found that PhP (the program for this site) is VERY sensitive to spaces - e.g. and extra space in a link and the link just shows up as text.

As far as the spell checker goes - it uses a pop-up window. If you have pop-ups blocked (which most of us smart mac people usually do Wink, then you need to edit your browser prefs to allow popups from this site. If you need instructions on how to do that, let me know.

Oh, yeah, I got to laughing so hard at the ugly dog picture that I forgot to finish my message.

Thanks once again, Pat, for your help with these kinds of questions. You really explain things well.

Guys-

Thanks for the help!
This computer's mouse has no right or left click or properties drop down menu, but I think I can do it manually.

So here goes a test:

This pup, "Misty", is now 5 1/2 months old and weighs 70 lbs!

OK, you have the ADDRESS instead of the LOCATION. Here is the location:

http://www.c-brats.com/albums/SeaWolf/IM001527.sized.jpg

Here is what you need to show off your pup!

Code:

On a single button mac mouse, holding down ctrl while clicking = right click on a PC. Alternatively, you can get a two or thee button mouse (for about $20) and then right click just like our PC brethren.

Also, if you're having issues getting a post to look just the way you want it, remember you can use the "Preview" button and alternate between editing and previewing until it looks just right.

Pat or Roger-

OK, so there's a difference between the location and address.

I can get the address from the address bar on my computer and copy it on the clipboard and enter it to make a link., although it shows the entire address, not a choosen word that has the real address hidden behind it.

But where do I get the location? Thanks in advance!

Joe.

Ok...since we are showing off our "Best Friends"......

Daisy Mae would like to be entered in the "Most Beautiful Dog to have a C-Dory named after" contest.

PS: Daisy Mae thinks Oscar has promise....a lot of promise.

Sammy doesn't care about contests. He's more interested in watching mommy cook....
