nasty work! but i was young to then :0\ much of the perimeter of the old v-cut plywood was chiseled off - there was NO FOAM here =)

making your own putty - use glass bead with resin mon =D

shaping all the pieces with a 9 inch sander and 30 grit - i think

it was heavy glass mat for the large panel areas

first piece - saved from having to stand on head to glass this in from position!

first step was to saturate the pieces with resin mon! :0)

detail; i used 1 inch ply for a stronger perimeter due to the added stresses that might come from an added hatch... also shows putty where the wood was not fit tight into the new design (cheating!) LOL

under!! with this new design also came the possibility to glass it in from the underside as well! this was some very challenging work in tight space :0\ (do not try this at home!) =oP

starboard side by the helm - the thick part was just a 2x6 - you can see the glass bead was in the resin in these under-areas to help it all set up better :0| *

much resin was formed by hand to get this smooth final fit

arrg! she's taking shape now donchano :oP relocated the potty to fit in a 20 gallon concealed water tank in this area - i also think this adds strength to the hull ? the area also turned out to be a highly used spot for a storage container as well, under the new hinged lid =)

gel coat yes :P glassed in from the bottom all the way up!

hinges; i used two stainless ones that came off of an engine cover for a larger boat (salvage parts) I'm sure a piano hing would have been better :o|
