A flat/wide wood block serves as a "skid". The spring U-bolts indented into the wood holds it in place over relatively smooth asphalt as we dragged it to the nearby repair yard.

I like your solution! I had a similar problem about 12 years ago. I strapped a dolly to the frame to get to the shop.
