1/4 inch 12x12 UHDW plastic backing plate windlass load is in shear so maybe overkill but maybe not. lewmar provides 3/8 washers, not even fender washers

loaded and tested and tied back 22lb Lewmar claw to 45 ft 1/4 Hi Test to 225 ft New England premium 3 strand with tapered back splice to the last link.

I turned on every system in the boat and then cycled the windlass, nothing popped or quit, completed install
