Marinaut 215 Berth Set Up for the "Betty Ann"
Fully extended berth showing head-first sleeping arrangement. Shown are two, queen size pillows. We bought two flannel sleeping bags, good to 40 degrees, for $136 at LL Bean. We unzipped them, using one for the bottom, which sat on top of our fiberbed topper, and the other was used as a comforter. Overall, this sleep space is roughly 6 feet long by 5 feet wide, with a slight decrease to 4.5 feet at the bulkhead. We slept better is this berth then we did at home. 9/26/12 comment. This berth is a lot larger than one would think. I can sleep across the bunker once past the bulkhead. The only issue with sleeping toward the bow is the deck is close to one's head, but that's OK after awhile, since you have a cavernous view of the cabin from that perspective as well as having the hatch overhead. Another thing that should be considered is that if any of you suffer from heartburn like I do, you know that it is infinitely preferable for your head to be higher then your feet. Sleeping with your head toward the bow achieves this.

WamsuttaŽ Cool & Fresh Queen Fiberbed - Queen is 60
WamsuttaŽ Cool & Fresh Queen Fiberbed - Queen is 60" W x 80" L . Top is 80% cotton/20% InvistaŽ polyester. Bottom and gusset are 100% cotton. Fill is 100% polyester. Trim is 100% olefin. 400 thread count. We bought this for $129 from Bed Bath and Beyond, and it gave us a wonderful night's sleep. 9/26/12 update. We have spent 12 nights in the boat this year, and continue to love the combination of Wamsutta Topper and Sleeping bag. All we do is to rotate the Wamsutta every couple of months. We continue to insist that this arrangement is more comfortable then our bed at home.

The extended berth, in our view, is enormous. The fiberbed topper is 60 inches wide by 80 inches long. The bulkhead is the most narrow spot, and if you measure from the hull to the bulkhead wall, you can see that it is over 4.5 feet wide.

Where did the portable toilet go? After we set up the berth for the night, we fold down the dinette table, and place the toilet on the elevated dinette platform. This affords a very comfortable and convenient location for the toilet. 9/26/12 update. We hardly ever use this configuration, because we now prefer our portable toilet enclosure at night.
