New Disc Brakes
From: Sea Wolf (Sea Wolf)  Mon Dec 6 13:24:43 2004
These brakes work much better than drums! When going down 5-6% grades, by simply dropping the automatic transmission out of overdrive and down into 3rd gear, the created resistance is enough to activate the surge actuator and put them on and limit the speed to 55 mph. Only have to slightly touch the brake pedal to go around corners!

looks good! were hoping to do the same next offseason.

(Sea Wolf) Engine Mounted Trolling Motor-Starboard View

Minn Kota Em 44 Engine Mounted Trolling Motor on Yamaha 90 with Cobra The Edge hydrofoil. Motor has 44 lbs of thrust and \is used to troll from 0 to 1.75 mph at which main motor can be used at it's minimum speed.

I have used this same e motor efore and have found it to be extemely efficiant dockside when docking. BRAVO

(Sea Wolf) Rear View of Trolling Motor and Cobra Hydrofoil
From: Sea Wolf (Sea Wolf)  Mon Dec 6 12:36:49 2004
Trolling motor looks larger than it rreally is in this view. On plane, this unit is up out of water and offers no drag. A minimum of 13 inches of water ober the cavitation plate is needed to make this work under water. Reverse thrust is somewhat compromised because prop thrust is directed against transom. Operation is almost noiseless. Great advantage over noise of main motor or kicker for spookish species of fish.

From: Sea Wolf (Sea Wolf)  Mon Dec 6 13:14:53 2004
Cobra "The Edge" hydrofoil is limited in size and longer and narrower than most, except for Perma Trim. Helps with achieving and maintaining low speed plane and trim without funny steering effects induced in turns. Back edge is downturned. This one is powder coated aluminum (3/16"), and stainless is available. $50 and $100 at Cabela's. [delete comment]

(Sea Wolf) Electric Control at Helm
From: Sea Wolf (Sea Wolf)  Mon Dec 6 13:18:37 2004
Helm control is vastly simplified over other set-ups. Simply turn off main motor, tilt the rocker switch for F/N/R, and dial in the speed, and continue to steer with the wheel. Seamless transition back and forth with main motor w/o the helmsman's moving. We use this motor to troll very slowly for trout when the wind doesn't require the main motor's thrust. It's stealthiness helps overcome the tendency of the comparatively large CD-22 to scatter spooky fish in shallow water fishing conditions on lakes. Compared to a gas kicker, it's a great improvement and one of the best things I've added to this boat.

(Sea Wolf) Battery Switch for #3 & #4 Batteries on Side of Dinette Seat
From: Sea Wolf (Sea Wolf)  Mon Dec 6 12:57:49 2004
Second battery switch controls two additional size 27 marine batteries under forward dinette seat. Although not absoloutly necessary, these extend the cruising range w/o using the main motor to recharge the other two batteries immensely. Trolling motor draws max of 36 amps, usually 15-25 in most situations. Combined capacity of 4 batteries is 440 amp-hours. 65% of 440 is 286 a-h, and 286 a-h / 20 amps = 14 hours! Perhaps a bit of overkill, but we won't be entertaining dead battereies.

From: Sea Wolf (Sea Wolf)  Mon Dec 6 13:02:41 2004
Charge rate of Yahaha 90 is 25 amps, but much of the charging can be done by the built in charger with the shore power at the dock or home. With the two switches and 4 battereies any possible combination of 1-4 batteries can be on line for use or charging.

From: Sea Wolf (Sea Wolf)  Fri Jun 6 11:59:05 2014
The batteries can also be charged underway, when moored, or docked, etc., by my Honda 1000i generator. The vectron 40 amp charger I have mounted up in the v-berth also has a de-sulfication high voltage AC system that I use every few months that I feel contributes greatly to battery life.

(Sea Wolf) Batteries 3 & 4 viewed thru Port Window
From: Sea Wolf (Sea Wolf)  Mon Dec 6 13:05:36 2004
Extra batteries also help to balance weight of helmsman in boat. With sealed cells, no oxygen or hydrogen is emitted when charging. Space lost to batteries was a good trade-off and only abouyt 1/4 of this area's volume.

From: Sea Wolf (Sea Wolf)  Thu Feb 16 08:28:42 2006
These two batteries have significantly thrown off the weight balance of the boat right to left (athawartships). They're ok when I'm by myself, but with the second person on board on the port side of the boat, there's just too much weight on that side of the boat. I'm going to move the batteries to the well under the v-berth to center their weight. (I don't use the Porta-Pota on the boat.) Will keep the switch where it is, lengthening the cables as necessary. I will also have to add a bar or barrier across the well to keep the batteries from sliding backwards. Weight forward on an inland lake (Shasta) is not a problem and helps cut the waves and chop. Will let you kinow how it turns out. Joe. [delete comment]

(Sea Wolf) Fuel line for Honda Generator from Racor Filter / Main tanks.
From: Sea Wolf (Sea Wolf)  Fri Feb 17 19:53:40 2006
Here's the fuel line so the Honda generator can draw fuel directly from the main fuel tanks through the Racor filter, and thus not have to be refilled by hand.

(Sea Wolf) Detail of Racor filter end of fuel line.
From: Sea Wolf (Sea Wolf)  Fri Feb 17 20:11:38 2006
Here's the pick up end that goes to one of the filter outlets. Besides the nipple, there's a shut off valve for double safety. The next brass and black fittings are a quick disconnect 2 part fuel fitting, this one Yamaha style, although you can use any type.

Not shown in this photo is the squeeze / primer bulb to purge air from the system when setting it up. See it in the previous photo. [delete comment]

(Sea Wolf) Fuel cap end to fit Honda tank, view I.
From: Sea Wolf (Sea Wolf)  Fri Feb 17 20:28:04 2006
Herre's the inside of the Honda gas cap, showing the bushing, inner washer, and original cap gasket. The cap must be drilled out to accept the elbow's threaded fitting from the top, which fits into the bushing below. There is a neoprene washer on either side of the plastic cap, and the inside still has the original gasket, although it must have an opening cut into it large enough for the brass fittings. It's cheaper to buy a similar gas cap for a Honda[ mower than to buy another generator gas cap, as your're going to discard the more complex inner workings of the generator's cap. delete comment] [delete comment]

(Sea Wolf) Fuel cap end to fit Honda tank, view II
From: Sea Wolf (Sea Wolf)  Fri Feb 17 20:07:54 2006
Here's another view of the modified gas cap. You can see the barbed fitting, the elbow that fits through the opening cut into the gas cap, and the inner bushing that forms the seal with the elbow. All brass threaded fittings are sealed with Permatex High Temperature Thread Sealer. Clear Tygon tubing is used to be able to spot air spaces. The literature says it is chemically compatible with petroleum products. We'll watch and see. [delete comment]

Chain/Rope Splice: The completed splice lacks the bulging doubled-up section where all three strands are woven back into the rope. This passes much more easily through the windlass, which can jam on the standard type of splice.
