02: Shows the underside of the impeller housing, after separation from the water pump housing. Note the wear and heat discoloration to the special key, which was caused from the drive shaft rotating while the impeller remained in place, or rotated at a lesser rpm. The key would remain in its slot or groove in the impeller, and slip along the drive shaft surface for 1 or more revolutions. Heat discoloration would indicate slippage for multiple revolutions before the impeller began rotating at the same rpm as the drive shaft. This is presumed to be an effect of starting the motor after storage, and generally unavoidable. Also note the non-symmetrical alignment of the water discharge port on the aft part of the pump liner, which is normal. |
