We hadn't gotten far before the winds turned us back and we set up camp in a storm. Waves in the Straight were 3m, rising to 5m in the night. We were fairly well protected from the 50 kt winds.

Having never been logged and trampled by heavy equipment, the floor was dominated by moss and rotting logs.

Trees had been harvested here. This is what is called a "Culturally Modified Tree." It showed the markings of being partly cut down with something small, like a hand adze, then somebody changed their mind a century ago.
