Aluminum plate on back is a little over 17" high and 24" wide.
no magic to the dimensions, just the size of the sheet I got. Needed to bore 3 1.5" holes in the plate to match the drain pattern in the splashwell. Bought 1.5 inch bit online at harbor freight.

back plate is 3/8 not 1/2 as mentioned elsewhere. front plate (red stripe)is 5/8" (wanted low flex) and goes down to just above the drain holes.

Though I had some previous cracking (seperation) of the glass at the top of the transom, it still seemed extremely strong and not yet needing a full rebuild. However sandwiching it in thick aluminum seemed the way to go, especially with the added stresses added by using a 25" shaft motor.
